Dr. Wheelwright received his Bachelor's Degree in Management at the University of Oregon, his Master's at Houston Clear Lake, and his Doctorate at Leeds Metropolitan University, where the subject of his dissertation was “Personal Futures.” While most futurists focus on the “big picture,” the futures of the World, of societies or institutions; Dr. Wheelwright identifies as a “microfuturist,” saying “I look at the personal futures of individuals. Wheelwright develops models that allow the futurist approaches applying to the military, the business world, governments and other organizations, to be used by individuals as well. In particular, his vast experience in international commerce and his activities in several different countries help in allowing his models to be adapted according to cultural and economic differences.
Dr. Wheelwright asserts that with simple, practical approaches that help people organize the information in their lives, anyone who wishes to can discover and thus create their future, and prepare for the future.
The “Personal Futures Workbook” resulted from tests and practice upon people of various age and cultural groups. Today many people, especially in England, the U.S. and Turkey, put Dr. Wheelwright's approaches into practice in all areas of their lives. A member of the Association of Professional Futurists, the World Future Society and the World Future Studies Federation, Dr. Wheelwright continues to be active in research, gives seminars on personal futures, and holds workshops.
Dr. Wheelwright’s method is practiced in Turkey by the M-GEN Future Planning Center. It is based on the philosophy that happiness and success in life are attainable through a “goal-oriented” life.
According to Dr. Wheelwright, we have plenty of information about the future, and that this information will guide individuals of all ages in creating their personal futures.
